The Earls Court Development Company
The Earls Court Development Company was formed in 2019 to drive forward the development of the Earls Court site in central London. This expert team are bringing to life their bold and ambitious vision to transform 40 acres of derelict land into a visionary new way of looking at city life. And when we spoke with the CEO, he was determined for the business to embody more than a typical, traditional ‘development company’ culture. We knew a vibrant new culture needed to be built from scratch that would present ECDC as one team with one goal despite their many and varied backgrounds.
We started as we meant to go on. Culture comes from within, so we undertook thorough research to make sure we were listening to the voice of the people. Through these discovery sessions, interviews, focus groups and surveys, we were able to collect insight into why people joined, their expectations and their purpose. This allowed us to begin creating the foundations of their culture. We created six pillars to show what ECDC stands for and then three values (the pillars in action):
- We are one team.
- We are thinkers and doers.
- We make things happen.
The team’s shared visions, beliefs and ambitions would become the ECDC manifesto:
We are
The right people
In the right place
At the right time
And we are bringing
The wonder back.
This project allowed us to promote good practice from the get-go. As a result, we were able to establish cultural pillars and values for a brand-new company with no existing employer brand. Relying on the voice of their people, we had plenty of ideas, opportunities and potential to tap into. Since this project, ECDC has continued to grow, recruiting talented people who share their values and fit their ways of working. A year on, we conducted their first annual engagement survey, and over 95% of people said they were proud to work for ECDC. 100% said they enjoyed working with their team, and 81% said they felt ECDC runs on positive values. We look forward to continuing to support ECDC as they go from strength to strength.
